What is Pre-Med?

Pre-med is a set of designated coursework you take in your undergraduate education to prepare you for medical school. Your pre-medicine education will prepare you today to take on tomorrow’s health care challenges and change the future for the better. At UHSP, your classes (even history and public speaking) are taught through a health sciences lens so you develop the skills you’ll need to grow into an excellent doctor.

General Biology with lab (8 credit hours)
General Chemistry with lab (8 credit hours)
Organic Chemistry with lab (8 credit hours)
Physics with lab (8 credit hours)
Statistics (Some schools will require Calculus)
English with writing intensive courses (6 credit hours)
Psychology and Sociology (may or may not be a prerequisite)

Recommended: Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Genetics, Medical Terminology
MCAT: Introductory Biology, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics, Human Physiology, Psychology and Sociology

After earning your bachelor’s degree or completing your pre-medicine prerequisites, you’ll be ready to pursue any medical program you choose. UHSP students who choose to pursue their Doctor of Osteopathic (DO) Medicine at A.T. Still University (ATSU-KCOM) benefit from three interview slots reserved for UHSP students each year
