Pillars of the College

The college’s foundation is rooted in the academic pillars of community engagement, teaching and research, with each pillar designed to offer transformative opportunities for students and launch the University to new heights. Through these academic pillars, the college works to provide a panoptic and inclusive view of health to shed light on inequalities and create solutions to address them.

The College of Global Population Health is working to develop diverse and interdisciplinary community partnerships that provide UHSP students, faculty and staff with opportunities to serve the community, develop their skills and succeed as transformational health leaders. Through a diverse partnership ecosystem, we will enable student internships, volunteering experiences and workforce development opportunities based on the needs and interests of the community.

The College of Global Population Health offers degree programs to expand and enrich current academic offerings at UHSP with plans to expand pathways and scholarship opportunities for students. The college works collaboratively with other colleges in the University to offer students a holistic view of population health, emphasizing equity and population outcomes, and highlighting the global implications of local health issues.

The college is focused on professional, leadership and career development.

  • The college is focused on developing diverse, inclusive leaders who can drive cross-functional teams, navigate changing environments and develop a shared vision that can improve the health of populations.
  • Students will be equipped with in-demand skills such as project management, problem solving and data literacy.
  • Career development efforts will include well-being and lifelong learning to enable graduates to be productive members of society and successfully launch their careers. Students will have a variety of internship, research and volunteering opportunities to enhance their skill and career development.

The College of Global Population Health is focused on cultivating interdisciplinary research locally and globally.

  • Translating Research into Action – One key goal of the college is the expansion of population health research. Population health focuses on understanding health outcomes and the distribution of those outcomes within a population. With much research on health disparities in public and population health already underway, the college will work to conduct health equity research utilizing new scientific approaches and data science methods and tools, with the power to uncover hidden insights on ways to improve the health of populations and address the root causes of health inequities.
  • Health Equity – Our faculty are leading innovative research across multiple areas impacting health equity including maternal and child health, Alzheimer’s disease, substance use and misuse, mental health and behavioral health outcomes, data science, and social determinants of health, among others. Many of the above areas involve students who have the opportunity to work 1:1 with faculty members and present their work at local, regional and national conferences.
  • International Collaboration – Realizing that global health issues have local implications, the college will engage in international collaboration with partners who have complementary strengths and interests. The establishment of these partnerships will help the college extend its capabilities, impact and influence as it works to tackle the health challenges of our time.
