International Admissions Requirements

International students who wish to apply for admission must fully satisfy all admission criteria in order to gain acceptance to their intended degree program. After the student is shown to meet all admission criteria including language scores and finances, the student will only be issued a Federal Form I-20 Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status if the student meets the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) requirements regarding admission, finances, and F-1 non-immigrant eligibility. For more information about SEVP, the Form I-20, and F-1 non-immigrant eligibility please visit Study in the States at studyinthestates.dhs.gov/.

Please see the USCIS ELIS and Nonimmigrant Students Fact Sheet for more information. The University reserves the right to require placement exams in mathematics or science, additional verification of English proficiency, and/or an interview with the applicant.

We will notify the applicant if any of this additional information is needed and will schedule appropriate times and dates.

Checklist For International Students

In addition to the required admission materials for your desired program, the following must be submitted in order to be considered for admission. After you are accepted, you will also need to submit a Transfer Verification Form for F-1 students prior to enrollment.

ACADEMIC RECORDS

Official academic records (secondary or college) with official credit evaluation by a credential evaluation service associated with the Association of International Credential Evaluators (AICE) or the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). Education Credentials Evaluators (ECE), World Education Services (WES) or InCred (required for athletes).

EVIDENCE OF ENGLISH PROFICIENCY

International applicants should show proof of English proficiency by submitting an English proficiency test score or contacting the Office of Admissions to discuss waiving the requirement due to previous instruction in English.

PROOF OF FINANCIAL SUPPORT

Proof of financial support for attendance must be submitted via a notarized bank statement, no more than six months old from the time of submission to UHSP, in the applicant’s name that shows deposited U.S. currency funds. If the funds are not in applicant’s name, a notarized Affidavit of Financial Support for F-1 Student Form from a financial sponsor is required. The affidavit form should define the exact amount designated for the applicant’s educational and living expenses and the period of time for which this financial support is pledged. The sponsor’s full name, mailing address, phone number and email address are required.

PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP AND VISA STATUS

If you currently reside in the United States, you must submit evidence of your current status with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. This may include forms I-20, I-94 and a current visa.
