Information for Visiting Scholars
University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis hosts visitors from around the world through Pharmabridge and its more than 15 international partnerships. Visitors are invited to participate in on campus activities, explore St. Louis and encouraged to share their personal experiences from home with faculty, staff
In order to provide the best experience, it’s important to ensure your interests match with the University's areas of expertise. Prior to setting an itinerary, mutually agreed upon objectives must be established between the University and international visitors.
International visitors must submit the following items to the Office of International Programs prior to arrival:
- Apply for a pharmacy license, if necessary. If you will be working in a pharmacy during your visit, you must obtain a license from the Missouri Board of Pharmacy and meet specific requirements of the hospital or community pharmacy that you will be working in.
- Apply for a visa. To apply for a visa, visit the U.S. Department of State. Contact the Office of International Programs to request a letter of invitation to submit along with your visa application. When requesting a letter of invitation, please provide the following details: your full name exactly as written on your passports, position/title, dates of the visit, and what you would like to achieve during the visit.
- Submit your visa application to the U.S. embassy at least three months prior to your trip. Once your visa has been obtained, submit your visa confirmation to the Office of International Programs.
- Obtain International Health and Emergency Evacuation Assistance Insurance. You must be covered under a health insurance policy from the time you leave your home country until the time you return. Your insurance policy needs at least $100,000 of coverage, including at least $10,000 coverage for medical evacuation and repatriation of remains. Once your insurance has been obtained, email a copy of your insurance card to the Office of International Programs.
- Submit an updated CV and a recent photograph of yourself to the Office of International Programs.
- Notify the Office of International Programs if you need access to a laptop computer.
An estimation of costs you may incur include:
- Round trip flights from your location to St. Louis, Missouri
- Housing in a local hotel can cost $100 per day or more. The University has two residence halls for students and may offer a modest room to you at no charge, if space is available.
- U.S. Visa $190
- International Health and Emergency Evacuation Assistance Insurance, $2-$4 per day
- Meals $30 per day
- Missouri Pharmacy Intern License $35; fingerprinting $43; drug screening test $50; photo $9; immunization records and evidence of a negative TB test in English
- Warm clothes and coats if you visit during the winter months
- Electrical adapters
- Local transportation includes the MetroLink ($2.50 each way) and Uber ($10-$20 depending on location).
- Incidentals (entertainment, etc.)
