Information for Parents

Exploring another country allows students to expand their worldview and gain unparalleled experience. Students have the opportunity to interact with people from a variety of backgrounds providing them with the knowledge necessary to serve diverse and complex patient populations. Students have the opportunity to grow personally and professionally providing them with the skills required of tomorrow's health care leaders.

Since 2013, more than 200 students have participated in student learning opportunities abroad. Students may choose to participate in the following learning opportunities:

International Service Learning (ISL)

ISL is a three-credit hour elective course that researches the culture, history and traditions of a specific country. Through ISL, students explore cultural differences and reflect on a cultural experience. The course is comprised of 10 students and two faculty members and includes a two-week international service project with a non-government organization (NGO).

International Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) Rotations

During the final year of the Doctor of Pharmacy program, students are required to participate in eight, five-week APPE rotations. Students may choose to participate in an international elective. Generally, students participating in international APPE rotations travel in pairs and spend four weeks at an international site and the additional week working at the University to prepare for the experience or to complete post-travel assignments.
