Tell us about yourself.
I have a very tight knit family. My parents emigrated here from South America and instilled in my siblings and me the importance of family and being present. I am very proud to be a first-generation college graduate.
What does a typical day look like for you?
I add new materials in all formats to the integrated library system (ILS), so that everyone can quickly retrieve the library resources that they need. As our MOBIUS site coordinator, I am in constant communication with other University site coordinators throughout the day. I also manage course reserves and process interlibrary loan requests for students, faculty, staff and preceptors.
What are you passionate about?
I am very passionate about learning. I learned to read when I was 3 years old, thanks to my dear mom! I haven’t stopped reading or wanting to learn ever since. Information literacy is also very important. Each one of us must be able to recognize when information is needed and be able to locate, evaluate and effectively use the needed information.
Librarianship is constantly evolving, so continuing education is essential. This job is a perfect fit for me!
What’s the best part about working at UHSP?
The students! I enjoy getting to know our students and do what I can to help them achieve their goals and provide the support they need to make their time here as meaningful and rewarding as possible.
I especially love when former students and library student assistants drop by or send me a message or card. It makes my day!
What do you want students/campus to know about the Library?
We’re very committed to offering the best student experience possible on campus. Our highly skilled librarians serve as knowledgeable resources in helping students, faculty and staff become effective users and generators of information.
The library offers 10 group study rooms equipped with wall-to-wall whiteboards, as well as flat screen displays with HDMI hook-ups that are available for use while the library services desk is open. For assistance reserving a room, students can visit the library study room page. Other study spaces and e-resources are available 24/7.
A copy of every course textbook is available for check out at the service desk so students can always access study materials if they leave their book at home. We even have study room kits, HDMI cables, laptop chargers and phone chargers available for check out at the service desk, and we offer free ear plugs to drown out background noise.
Last, but not least, we always have free coloring sheets and candy at the service desk!
