ACPE Self-Study to be Available Soon for Alumni Review

Published on 16 July 2021

As St. Louis College of Pharmacy at University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy and Health Sciences in St. Louis works to finalize and complete the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) self-study in advance of the organization’s site visit in spring 2022, the college will seek alumni input and feedback on the study before it is submitted to ACPE.

The self-study is designed to capture St. Louis College of Pharmacy’s compliance with pharmacy education standards with the goal of achieving full ACPE accreditation status. The internal study, which is completed every eight years, requires the college to examine 25 standards focused on various aspects of its functions including academics, faculty, curriculum, assessment, student services, and institutional leadership and governance structure.

The formal self-study process, which is currently underway, begins 12-18 months prior to ACPE’s official site visit. The writing of the self-study includes contributions from various stakeholders including faculty, students, staff, alumni and preceptors. Last spring, stakeholders worked to create and revise their draft reports for each of the standards.

“As we engaged in the self-study process, we established a self-study steering committee with representation from college alumni, preceptors, faculty, students, staff and administrators,” explained Gloria Grice, Pharm.D., FNAP, BCPS, professor of pharmacy practice and associate dean for academic affairs at St. Louis College of Pharmacy at UHSP. “The committee has been responsible for providing essential feedback on the initial drafts of the self-study standards. As we enter the final stages of editing, we are looking forward to sharing the draft self-study with stakeholders outside of the steering committee this fall.”

Grice notes that feedback and input from the alumni community will be helpful as the college works to produce a final version of the self-study for submission to ACPE.

“In the fall, we’ll be looking at specific ways to engage alumni and give them opportunities to provide feedback on the self-study,” Grice said.

St. Louis College of Pharmacy at UHSP will host ACPE in spring 2022. The final draft of the self-study will be submitted several weeks in advance of the three-day visit.
