Teshome Named MSHP Preceptor of the Year

Published on 09 April 2019

Besu Teshome, Pharm.D., MSPS, BCPS, assistant professor of pharmacy practice at St. Louis College of Pharmacy and clinical pharmacy specialist in internal medicine at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) St. Louis Health Care System, has been named Preceptor of the Year by the Missouri Society of Health-System Pharmacists (MSHP). Each year, MSHP presents the award to a health-system pharmacist in recognition of their outstanding service to the profession as a preceptor to pharmacy students or residents.

Teshome works with P4 students from the College who are taking part in acute care advanced pharmacy practice experience (APPE) rotations at the VA St. Louis Health Care System’s John Cochran Division. Serving as a preceptor since 2015, Teshome has worked with 59 students from the College over the years.

“My favorite part of being a preceptor is having the opportunity to work directly with students,” said Teshome. “It’s so rewarding to be able to help them build confidence in their clinical skills and watch them progress in their careers. I feel incredibly honored to be recognized by MSHP for my work with students. This is something that I will treasure for the rest of my career.”

The College partners with more than 1,100 preceptors to provide hands-on learning experiences for students through introductory and advanced pharmacy practice experiences in more than 750 locations across the country and around the world.

Pharmacists who are interested in becoming preceptors with the College are invited to contact the Office of Experiential Education at experiential@stlcop.edu or 314.446.8523.
