What is Financial Aid?

Financial aid is money to help you pay for college. It can include a variety of different sources, including federal aid, University funds, scholarships, grants and loans. It’s never too early to start planning for your future.

Federal aid

For many students, financial aid starts with the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). This is a federal form that compiles your financial information, allowing the federal government to assess your specific needs.

Scholarships

Scholarships are a type of aid you do not have to repay and are awarded based on merit (skill or ability), financial need or other factors. UHSP offers scholarships based on academic achievement, athletics as well as scholars programs.

Alternative Resources

Financial aid isn’t limited to federal and university aid. There are many resources you can use to close the gap in funding your education, including external grants and scholarships from other organizations.
