As a health care-focused institution, University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis is committed to improving patient care through education that prepares students for successful careers in health professions. As the most accessible health care provider, pharmacists play an important role in improving care and patient outcomes.
Today, the demand for patient-centered treatment and care is growing, and the unique role of the pharmacist is being recognized as a critical component of interprofessional health care teams.
Experiential education opportunities provide students with in-depth exposure to pharmacy practice settings which prepare students for their role on the health care team.
Through personal, hands-on experiences working under the mentorship of expert preceptors, students learn the lessons of responsibility and commitment to service that makes patient-centered care a reality.
Introductory pharmacy practice experiences (IPPEs) are woven throughout the first three years of the professional curriculum. The Doctor of Pharmacy program at UHSP culminates with a year of advanced pharmacy practice experiences (APPEs).
