Outreach and Advocacy Day
Each spring, hundreds of students, faculty and staff from University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis take a day to show the region how important pharmacists are to the health of the community. Students travel to the state capitols in Jefferson City, Missouri, and Springfield, Illinois, to talk to lawmakers about issues affecting pharmacy and health care. Other students volunteer at health fairs and lead discussions at places like the Missouri Botanical Gardens about important medication and health issues.
MPA Legislative Day
Through participation in the Missouri Pharmacy Association's Legislative Day, students, faculty and staff travel to Jefferson City, Missouri, and lobby state legislators about Missouri congressional bills that affect the profession of pharmacy. They also advocate for provider status, as a provider bill was recently introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Local Outreach
Locally, student provide free health screenings at Missouri Botanical Garden, Saint Louis Science Center and more than a dozen pharmacies. Students perform diabetes, blood pressure and bone density screenings. They have also discussed the safe use of medications, asthma and how patients can utilize pharmacists to help achieve their health care goals.
