Published on 02 June 2021

Tom Burris, Ph.D., FAAAS, FAHA, Alumni Chair in Pharmaceutical Education and vice president for research at University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis, was ranked among the top 150 pharmacologists in the world in the recently released 2020 Highly Cited Researchers List published by Clarivate, a global company dedicated to providing trusted information and insights to accelerate the lifecycle of innovation.
Compiled annually, the list identifies researchers worldwide who have demonstrated significant influence in their chosen field through the publication of multiple highly cited papers during the past decade. Names are chosen from publications that rank in the top 1% of citations for field and publication year in Clarivate’s Web of Science citation index.
In 2020, more than 6,000 researchers in 21 fields of the sciences and social sciences, and cross field categories were selected based on the number of highly cited papers they produced over an 11-year period from January 2009 to December 2019.
Burris was ranked on the 2020 list in the field of Pharmacology and Toxicology. This marks the second time he was named to the list, after also being recognized as a Highly Cited Researcher in 2018.
“This is a prestigious award, and I’m honored to have been named to the list for 2020,” Burris noted. “For me, this recognition represents a reinforcement and acknowledgement that the work I’m doing in the lab is important and that it is making an impact within the field of pharmacology and among my fellow researchers.”
Burris’ lab in the Center for Clinical Pharmacology is focused on targeting nuclear receptors to create precision therapeutics for diseases with limited treatment options. His work includes cutting-edge research in the fields of cardio metabolic diseases, muscle function, Alzheimer’s disease, fatty liver disease and traumatic brain injury.
