Published on 10 May 2022

Name: Jim Hornick
Position: Sr. PC/AV Technician
Favorite Food: A good filet mignon
Hobbies: Home remodeling/repair
Favorite Book/TV Show: I’m not much of a reader unless it is a how-to manual. I love watching old movies on Turner Classic Movies and the bad “B” rated horror flicks on Svengoolie on Saturday nights.
Interesting Fact: I have been working with computers since 1984, before they we commonplace in the home.

Tell us about yourself.

I have two sisters and a brother, and I am the youngest. My parents are both still living and 90 years old. I love hanging out with my wonderful wife of 36 years. I have two daughters and four grandchildren who always put a smile on my face.

What does a typical day look like for you?

The daily trek across the river is always an experience. I open the shop at 8 a.m. and work with anyone who walks into the shop, whether it is a computer problem or not. I assist with the coordination of the purchase of IT equipment, provide support for classroom technology and a lot more — too much to list!

What are you passionate about?

Family. I believe family is everything. They are there for you no matter what obstacles you cross.

What’s the best part about working at UHSP?

The people. Everyone is friendly and caring so it is like having a second family.

What do you want students and campus to know about Information Technology Support?

We are here to support all of their IT needs. We may not have an immediate answer to your question, but we will do whatever it takes to get you an answer to resolve your issue.

What does a typical day look like for you?

Each day I get up at 5:30 a.m. and watch some anime before I get ready for work. Then, I drive an hour and listen to the Rizz Show on 105.7 the Point. I open the help desk at 8 a.m. and field calls and walk-ins all day. I close up at 4:30 p.m., drive an hour home and hang out with my wonderful wife.

What are you passionate about?

I get passionate about my hobbies when I find someone else who can share that passion. I enjoy motorcycle rallies and foosball tournaments. Some of those tournaments have a grand prize of $100,000.

What’s the best part about working at UHSP?

The benefits. Not just the tangible ones from being an employee — but the lasting relationships that are created here.

What do you want students and campus to know about Information Technology Support?

That we are here for all the students. We truly wish to improve their time here at UHSP.
