Love on a Leash Therapy Dogs Visit Campus

Published on 21 April 2016

Several therapy pets from Love on a Leash® (LOAL) visited with students on campus Tuesday, April 19, to help relieve stress before final exams.

The event was sponsored by the STLCOP Counseling Center and Active Minds as part of "We Are STLCOP" week. Love on a Leash is a nationally recognized 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to providing volunteer pet therapy teams to engage in meaningful and productive animal-assisted therapy. Students had the opportunity to interact with a variety of therapy dogs who lounged on the Residence Hall patio most of the afternoon. The dogs were happy and enthusiastic as they made new friends and brought smiles to many faces around campus.

“The therapy dog movement is based on the human-animal bond; the affection that dogs have for people and that people have for dogs,” said Love on a Leash founder Liz Palika. "Any help the therapy dog provides is based upon the relationship—the bond—people and dogs have shared for years."
