UHSP Named 2022 Great College to Work For

Published on 21 September 2022

For the 10th time, University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis has been named a “Great College to Work For” following the release of the results of a new survey conducted by the Great Colleges to Work For program and highlighted in the Chronicle of Higher Education, a leading publication for colleges and universities.

Now in its 15th year, the survey recognizes colleges and universities that have been successful in creating great workplaces, while also providing insight on the factors, dynamics and influences that have the most impact on organizational culture in higher education. A total of 212 institutions nationwide participated in the 2022 survey with UHSP being one of 68 institutions recognized as 2022 Great Colleges to Work For.

The University was recognized in three categories:

  • Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging
  • Faculty and Staff Well-Being
  • Shared Governance

This year marked the University’s first time being recognized in each of these categories.

“This recognition is important as it is representative of the great things that are already happening at UHSP, the great things that lie ahead and our path forward as a University,” said David D. Allen, RPh, Ph.D., president of the University.

In the categories of “Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging” and “Faculty and Staff Well-Being,” the University saw its highest scores in nearly a decade. Survey data indicated that the overall positive response average in the “Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging” category increased from 73% in 2021 to 82% in 2022, while in the category of “Faculty and Staff Well-Being,” the positive response average increased from 79% in 2021 to 87% in 2022.

Feedback from UHSP faculty in the 2022 survey also pointed to positive strides in the area of shared governance at the University over the past year.

The survey results come as the University prepares to embark on the creation of its new strategic plan, the establishment of a shared governance task force, and the development of a diversity, equity and inclusion task force, which will be tasked with creating a University-wide plan for DEI at UHSP.

“There is a lot of exciting work ahead for us in the coming months, and this survey information will serve as a springboard for that work,” Allen explained. “While this survey demonstrates that strides are already being made, the data provides us with additional motivation to continue to move the needle on our efforts to create a diverse, dynamic and engaged campus culture where all of our talented faculty and staff members, as well as our students, feel a strong sense of belonging, pride and dedication to this incredible institution.”

Representing one of the largest and most respected workplace recognition programs in the country, the 2022 Great Colleges to Work For two-part assessment process featured an institutional questionnaire that captured employment data and workplace policies from each institution, along with a survey that was administered to faculty, administrators and professional support staff.
