College Hosts ACCP Updates in Therapeutics 2019

On April 27 and 28, more than 600 clinical pharmacists from 17 states gathered at St. Louis College of Pharmacy for the American College of Clinical Pharmacy’s (ACCP) annual Updates in Therapeutics meeting.

Hosted on campus for the first time, the annual spring meeting was designed to provide clinical pharmacists, researchers, educators, PGY1 and PGY2 residents, fellows and students with resources to advance their career and improve their skillset through several events held over multiple days.

"The Updates in Therapeutics meeting was originally created to provide resources to clinical pharmacists who may have missed the ACCP Annual Meeting in the fall, as well as those preparing for Board of Pharmacies Specialty (BPS) exams and individuals wishing to present their research or other scholarly work for peer review," explained Michael Maddux, Pharm.D., FCCP, executive director of ACCP. "Since it began in 2000, the meeting has continued to expand and has proven to be a great opportunity for attendees to network with other clinicians, researchers and educators."

During the meeting, attendees took part in events held in spaces throughout the Academic and Research Building and the Recreation and Student Center. This year's meeting featured two BPS specialty preparatory and recertification courses with emphases in pharmacotherapy and critical care. Other events included professional development certificate program curricula offered by the ACCP Academy, the ACCP patient-centered, team-based practice forum, poster presentations, a biostatistics pre-meeting workshop, and a program titled "Emerge from the Crowd: How to be a Standout Residency Candidate," which was designed for students in the first three professional years.

"We were excited to host the event on the STLCOP campus this year," stated Maddux. "Due to its central U.S. location, it made perfect sense from both a national and regional perspective. The meeting was a real success and we received many positive comments throughout the weekend. The classrooms, event spaces and the auditorium provided customized settings for each event, and interactions with faculty and staff really enhanced the overall experience for our attendees."
