Social Awareness and Cultural Sensitivity Training

During Social Awareness and Cultural Sensitivity trainings, student pharmacists learn how to respond to individual patients’ needs and preferences as well as recognize cultural, racial and social inequities in health care.

Through the use of thoughtful discussions and learning activities, student pharmacists focus on developing self-awareness, bias mitigation, and a greater understanding of systemic power dynamics and social determinants of health.

All first-, second- and third-year professional students are required to attend Social Awareness and Cultural Sensitivity training each semester in compliance with the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education curriculum guidelines, the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Center for the Advancement of Pharmacy Education’s educational outcomes and the Institute of Medicine’s core competencies for all health care professionals.
