About the Program
The program merges scientific and humanistic disciplines with unique perspectives on health systems. Students who choose this major will develop knowledge on health issues impacting global populations, and they will be equipped to solve problems and improve patient care, both locally and around the world.
Students will engage in academic research and prepare for careers in a variety of fields. A senior capstone experience will allow students to complete a project through which they apply their skills and knowledge.
After completing the program, students will be prepared for careers such as policy analysts, researchers and junior executives in governmental and nongovernmental organizations or in the private sector.
The program can serve as a gateway to careers in:
- Public health
- Social work
- International relations
- Health psychology
- Health behavior research
Graduates will also be prepared to apply for admission to graduate and professional programs in fields such as education, law, business and many graduate programs in the humanities and social sciences.
Graduates of the global health program will be able to:
- Systematically explore and analyze entire situations before accepting opinions or formulating conclusions
- Present findings and research to a variety of culturally diverse audiences
- Address and understand the concerns of people from various backgrounds
- Conduct research pertinent to identifying current and relevant global health issues
Gain a Global Perspective
At University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis, we take a broad view of the world. We work to make sure our students are prepared academically, professionally and personally to serve diverse patient populations and communities.
We focus on cultural awareness and the importance of interacting with people from diverse backgrounds. It makes our students better health care providers and truly educated people.
Through international service learning and international rotations for pharmacy students, our students have completed thousands of hours of service and traveled hundreds of thousands of miles to provide patient care and service abroad.

Beginning in fall 2021, the University will offer a Master of Science (M.S.) in Global Health and Equity, allowing students to advance their understanding of emerging global health issues and contribute to meaningful improvements in patient care among diverse, underserved populations.
This program is pending approval from the University’s regional accrediting agency, the Higher Learning Commission.
