Impactful Community Engagement
Since our founding in 1864, University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis has been a steadfast presence in the St. Louis community and larger region.
As a health care-focused institution, building communities and improving patient care is at the core of our identity.
Each year, students, faculty, staff and alumni volunteer thousands of hours in activities that improve the community.
Through initiatives including safe medication disposal, partnering with local high schools to create opportunities in pharmacy for underrepresented high school students, and participating in both the Illinois and Missouri legislative days, the UHSP community is improving health throughout the St. Louis region.
Our students have been nationally recognized for their work in developing free clinics in medically underserved communities in St. Louis, and our faculty have been integral in fighting the opioid epidemic in the Missouri region.
Fighting the Opioid Epidemic
With the opioid crisis continuing to plague the nation, the University is taking a leadership role.
To prevent opioid misuse and abuse, the need for individuals to properly store and dispose of prescription medication has become more critical than ever.
To assist St. Louis-area senior citizens with disposing of their unused or expired medications, students and faculty from UHSP collaborate with local agencies to conduct door-to-door take-back events at senior living communities.
Within the profession of pharmacy, UHSP faculty are at the forefront.
From leading naloxone trainings, to conducting groundbreaking research in the area of pain management, we are educating and empowering our community to seek and promote positive change.
UHSP C.A.R.E.S.
UHSP C.A.R.E.S (Community Awareness Reaching Everyone in St. Louis) is a collegewide community service initiative held each fall in conjunction with Founders Day.
Students, faculty and staff volunteer at pet shelters, food banks, community pharmacies and various community centers to give back to our community.

Since the program started in 2008, 28 students have enrolled at University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis and 99% of participants have successfully enrolled in college after high school.
Outreach and Advocacy Day
Each spring, the pharmacy profession takes center stage in Missouri, as students from the University take part in Outreach and Advocacy Day.
During the event, hundreds of students, faculty and staff travel to the Missouri State Capitol in Jefferson City to advocate on behalf of the pharmacy profession and the patients we serve.
